Fall Splendor at Lake Keowee…
As the days get shorter and the nights get cooler, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful place on the planet than Lake Keowee South Carolina. After the heat and humidity that South Carolina’s summers have to offer, the fall season is a much welcomed and anticipated. Residents of Lake Keowee look forward to the cool crisp breezes, apple and pumpkin harvests and the fall festivals.
Autumn in the upstate is generally earlier than the rest of South Carolina, typically showing its colors starting the second week thru the fourth week in October. Some year’s enjoyment of the colorful foliage lasts longer; 2005 was a very mild fall and the leaves were still stunning thru the first week in November.
From Lake Keowee to the mountains you can drive the 130 mile scenic hwy 11, finding the most amazing reds, yellows and oranges that nature has to offer. There are beautiful views to be seen around Lake Keowee and the surrounding mountains, which have become a huge magnet for onlookers each October. To celebrate the upstate offers plenty of fall festivals.
Amazing Waterfalls, Just a step or 2 away from Lake Keowee
Although it is hard to get the majority of people to agree on anything, one thing that most residents in the Upstate of South Carolina will agree on, is the beauty of our local waterfalls. With some of the most spellbinding water shows in the USA, the western mountains of South Carolina are home to over 20 of the highest waterfalls in the country. The sound, sight and power will create an unforgettable experience. Although most are not visible from the road or parking lots, most are reached by a simple walk in the woods. Most waterfalls are just minutes from the shores of Lake Keowee. And several waterfalls pour into Lake Keowee and Lake Jocassee. No matter how little or how much you do, hiking is a great therapy for anyone. Get out there, stretch those legs, breath some fresh air, put on those walking shoes, and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer in Upstate South Carolina!
SCwaterfalls.com offers many directions and guides to waterfalls (on the right side of the web page) just a short drive from Lake Keowee.
